2012 Fall Seminar - India 360
Women in Flavor & Fragrance Commerce’s (WFFC) fall seminar focused on India, which provided a full circle of insight about various aspects of the F&F industry in the country. The Oct. 24 “India 360” event held at the Saddle Brook Marriott in Saddle Brook, NJ began with a talk on “Essential Oils, Oleoresins and Floral Extractives of South India” from George Paul (director, Synthite Industries Ltd.), who provided a glimpse into spice production in India as well as a video presentation beginning with the cultivation process and ending with the extraction process. Next, George Janow (Berjé Inc. vice president, purchasing) explained how India gained a foothold in aromatics trade during his “Indian Aromatics: From There to Here” presentation. Dr. Brian Lawrence (CEO, Brian Lawrence Consulting and editor for natural products, Perfumer & Flavorist magazine) later spoke about “The Story of India's Mint Oils and Menthol” complete with information on the ingredient’s variety, nomenclature and origins. In a later session, Doreen Bucher (Symrise Inc. vice president marketing, fine fragrance) spoke about customer preference for fragrance in India while Shilpa Panicker (Symrise Inc. vice president, oral care North America) provided first-hand insight about the predominantly young Indian consumer. The day was topped off with a fittingly Indian-inspired lunch, and of course, mango dessert.
