WFFC Chicago Presents: Strike Out Stress for Spring
By: Cheryl Udzielak (Givaudan)
The WFFC Chicago chapter held their 1st 2016 event on Thursday, April 14th at Pinstripes in Oakbrook, Illinois. The shiny spring weather brought in warmth and a stress-free feeling to our evening. Attendees started off with a relaxing one hour networking session where groups befriended and mingled together in a bright, airy atrium. A casual buffet dinner with an endless variety of food including salads, customized flatbreads and tasty sweets was featured for our guests to enjoy.
Our speaker, Aileen Baxter, provided a wonderfully humorous and smartly simple message to keeping us focused inside and outside of the workplace. In her talk, Aileen cleverly quoted Jack Welch, stating “There is no such thing as work-life balance. There are work-life choices, and you make them, and they have consequences.” She stressed the importance of cultivating resilience and shared four steps to fulfill this in a clear acronym “UCAN”.
U = Understand your thoughts
C = Care for self
A = Ask for help
N = No is an acceptable answer
Aileen highlighted ways in which one can become more productive, particularly in processing emails. She also recommended that individuals take the Myers Briggs Type Indicator test, http://www.quistic.com/personality-type. The outcome of this test can help individuals better understand their personality styles and act as a guide to set four to five core values. These values will guide individuals on if, how and when to fulfill their professional and personal activities and goals. Aileen concluded the presentation with another terrific quote “What I do today is important because I’m exchanging a day in my life for it.”
The evening ended in an intimate yet fully packed private bowling room, where over 30 guests enjoyed bowling while being re-energized with a delicious chocolate fountain bar!
