Perfumer Recognition Award Recipient
Patty Hidalgo
Vice President Perfumer

IFF

Patty Hidalgo was born to a Cuban mother and a Spaniard father who exiled to

the belief that hard work paves the way to limitless possibilities, Hidalgo began
work as a lab technician after college. As a lab technician she was intrigued by
the science and art of perfumery. She held various positions along the way
including QC Lab Manager, QA Director and through perseverance she was
promoted to perfumer trainee.

Patty had the opportunity to train alongside an acclaimed perfumer who
engaged her in the process of fragrance development and encouraged her
appreciation of perfumery. She discovered the art of perfumery by coincidence,
but today, she sees it as a craft that can instill emotions of dreams, optimism
and hope.

Patty has a diverse portfolio of fragrances created for both global and domestic
brands: LVMH, Estee Lauder, Coty, P&G, Escada , Victoria’s Secret, Bath &
Body Works, Abercrombie & Fitch, Mary Kay, Avon, SCJ, and Crabtree &

food, cocktails; the here and now and anything that feels good.

Previous to TNS, Erica spent 15 years developing fact-based information ecosystems for some of the world’s most influential companies: Twitter, Google, CBS News, MTV News and Vox Media.

At Google (2016-19), Erica led global News Lab efforts to understand and design solutions for misinformation. Her work took her around the world, to Singapore, Hong Kong, Brazil, France, Germany and the UK, where she met with local journalists and fact-checkers, to understand use cases and communicate back to Google HQ. She was also a co-organizer of the historic Google Walkout, where 20,000 employees walked out to protest sexual harassment.

At Twitter (2011-15), Erica was one of the first 300 employees. A pioneer of the company’s journalism efforts, her accomplishments include the development of satellite long codes to enable journalists to Tweet from war zones. She also produced the first Twitter Town Hall, where she nudged President Barack Obama to post his first Tweet with the initials “-B.O.”. She advised business development teams on acquisitions, experienced the company’s IPO and started Twitter’s internal LGBT group (“Twitter Open”) by pursuing community and organizing the queer identifying employees.

Prior to Twitter, Erica had the opportunity to work for Katie Couric at the CBS Evening News. Erica’s main focus was to integrate social media, and specifically Twitter, into Katie’s routine.

As one of the world’s first beauty YouTubers, she defined the category, architected pioneering deals and developed content formats that to this day, find new life on platforms such as TikTok. All combined, she amassed a community of 6 million fans, many of whom say they grew up with Ingrid.

Her now-retired YouTube channel, which she started in 2009, gave her a place to review beauty products in an era when non-white skin was ignored by mainstream media. As a mixed race, Asian-American woman, she became a central figure of 2010-2020 beauty culture.

During her rise and popularity, she also had an extraordinary impact on popular culture. Her 2015 Coming Out video drew more than 17 million views and earned her the Trevor Award for saving LGBTQ lives. Her 2016 interview with President Obama about menstrual product access led to a national repeal of the tampon tax. She was honored with the title of UN Ambassador for Girls, and named to Oprah Winfrey’s “Super Soul 100” list, which honored pioneering young people.

During her time as a Creator, she also had the privilege of working with brands like Fresh Beauty, Covergirl, Jo Malone London and Bare Minerals.

Ingrid got the idea for The New Savant after retiring from YouTube. She was in Valparaiso, Indiana, when she saw a candle at Erica’s Dad’s house. She asked herself, “I wonder how you make a candle?” and the rest is history.

At The New Savant, Ingrid leads product development and brand identity.
