WFFC Cincinnati Presents: Sip & Savor
By: Sarah Forbis, MANE, Inc.
On June 15, 2016 the Cincinnati Chapter met at Vinoklet Winery to learn from culinary expert, Caitlin Steininger from “Cooking with Caitlin.” Vinoklet provided a unique dining experience in which everyone was able to experience a tasting of home-grown and cultivated wines. Vinoklet is home to eight award winning wines including the prestigious "Best Ohio Wine 2012" in the category of White Wines by the Ohio Department of Agriculture. The Winery and Restaurant is located on 30 acres of picturesque rolling hills and ponds and is the only working winery with a vineyard in Hamilton County.
Our speaker, Caitlin, presented the history of grilling, including barbecuing versus grilling. She also discussed trends such as infrared grilling and drippings along with the pros and cons of each. Caitlin reviewed culinary ideas for burnt, roasted, and sweet concepts such as charred fruit and cocktails that would not overwhelm the palate. The presentation was followed by a grilling demonstration promoting food safety. The Cincinnati members enjoyed the opportunity to then grill their own meal of either steak, salmon or chicken. As the storm clouds rolled in, everyone enjoyed fellowship and networking over their meals and not even a power outage could dim the camaraderie in the room!
The WFFC Cincinnati would like to thank each of the guests for attending the event, Vinoklet Winery for hosting us, and Caitlin Steininger for sharing her knowledge and expertise.
