On June 22nd, the WFFC hosted their Annual Recognition Awards Dinner at the Liberty House in Jersey City, New Jersey. Amy Marks-McGee, President of the WFFC and CEO of Trendincite LLC, hosted the evening with 133 guests in attendance to honor four distinguished award recipients.
Alpa Roman, Senior Flavor Chemist, Flavor & Fragrance Specialties, received the Flavorist Award. Alpa was introduced by FFS President, Mike Bloom. Mike expressed his profound respect for Alpa mentioning that she is “one of those ‘go-to’ people when you need something done, this is the person to go to.” Mike even brought along a blown up picture of Alpa from years ago, to demonstrate how long they have been working together.
The Perfumer Award was given to Cécile Hua, Senior Perfumer, Mane. Westly Morris, Senior Vice President of Fine Fragrance at Mane, introduced Cécile. Westly touched on the inspiration for Cécile’s life as a perfumer, mentioning that she began creating “fragrant potions” at the age of seven. Cécile accepted the award with teary eyes while receiving a standing ovation.
This year, the WFFC introduced a new award, the Innovative Excellence Award. Our first recipient of this award, Nancy Vorbach, Senior Director, Strategic Beverage Accounts, ADM/Wild Flavors and Specialty Ingredients, was introduced by Scott Olstad, Vice President of Global Sales. Scott’s praise of Nancy’s successful career and the admiration from her colleagues can be summed up in Nancy’s own words: “I think if you love your work, it’s like loving your family. It feels natural.”
The Nancy Poulos Leadership Award recipient was Paige Crist, Associate Publisher, Allured Business Media. Editor in Chief, Perfumer & Flavorist, Jeb Gleason-Allured, introduced Paige emphasizing her humility and humor, while noting that “no one in our company works harder.” Paige closed the evening with remarks on the significant advances women have made when it comes to leadership within the flavor and fragrance industry, stating, “I think it’s fair to say that we are slightly ahead of some countries in the women’s rights category, and organizations like the WFFC help to get us there.”
The ceremony was warm and welcoming. The venue provided an excellent location for all to mingle and embrace each other while honoring our award recipients. Many stayed long into the evening roasting marshmallows and celebrating, while enjoying the breathtaking views of New York City. Overall, the evening was a wonderful representation of the successful women in the flavor and fragrance industry.
