Glen Rock, NJ –The WFFC is pleased to announce the 2016 Annual Recognition Award recipients. They are Paige Crist, Perfumer & Flavorist – Nancy Poulos Leadership Award, Nancy Vorbach, Wild Flavors & Specialty Ingredients – Innovative Excellence Award, Alpa Roman, Flavor and Fragrance Specialties – Flavorist Award, and Cécile Hua, Mane – Perfumer Award. The award recipients will be honored at the WFFC Annual Recognition Dinner on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the Liberty House Restaurant in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Paige Crist, Associate Publisher of Perfumer & Flavorist, is the recipient of the Nancy Poulos Leadership Award. Ms. Crist entered the flavor and fragrance industry when she joined Allured Business Media in 2004 as an account executive for the Perfumer & Flavorist magazine. Since then, she has taken on the role of associate publisher of the P&F brand and added two global industry events, the World Perfumery Congress and Flavorcon, to her accomplishments. As a member of the WFFC for over a decade, Ms. Crist now serves on two WFFC committees. In 2010, her quest for personal and professional growth brought her from Chicago to New York City where she currently resides.
In 2016, the WFFC Board newly created the “Innovative Excellence Award”, honoring an individual who offers novel contributions to the industry, and acts as a role model for guiding change and innovations. The first recipient is Nancy Vorbach, Senior Director, Strategic Beverage Accounts at ADM/Wild Flavors & Specialty Ingredients.
Ms. Vorbach graduated from Ohio State, with a Master of Science degree in Food Science. She started her career at the former General Foods, focusing on beverage business. Over the past 30 years, she has taken on increasing responsibilities at Pepsi and to the current position at Wild. Her passion is start-up beverage companies. Ms. Vorbach works with entrepreneurs in developing new products and product positioning. They grow the brands from concept inception to national expansion, and ultimately execute corporate sales to large global beverage companies. Ms. Vorbach volunteers at multiple organizations that benefit children and Border Collies. She lives with her husband and two sons.
Alpa Roman, Certified Senior Flavor Chemist at Flavor & Fragrance Specialties Inc., is the recipient of the Flavorist Award. For the 21 years at FFS, Ms. Roman’s focus is on creative flavor development for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries. With more than 30 years of flavor industry experience, she previously held positions at Ungerer & Co, Bush, Boake, Allen and Hagelin & Co. She devotes her time supporting the flavor industry, serving as a board member of the Chemical Sources Association and the WFFC. She has been a member of the Society of Flavor Chemists for over 10 years.
Cécile Hua, Creative Fine Fragrance Perfumer at Mane, is the recipient of the Perfumer Award. Ms. Hua was compelled toward perfumery by instinct and pure aesthetics. “The only thing that was always clear to me was that I wanted to create. I never doubted it,” she said. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, as well as her Master’s degree in Chemistry and Marketing from Université de Provence. She started her career at Givaudan as a Junior Perfumer, while attending Givaudan Roure Perfumery School. Since 2003, she has been working with Mane, rising to the current position. Ms. Hua was the first recipient of the Fashion Group International Rising Star Award for the Fragrance Design category in 2003. She volunteers at the Sense of Smell Development at the local elementary schools, a program that helps develop children’s focus on their sense of smell, olfactory vocabulary and basic introduction to fragrance creation. She is the proud mother of four children, all under age of twelve.
The WFFC, Inc. was founded in 1982 by women employed in various capacities in the U.S. flavor and fragrance industry. This organization was borne out of a recognized need for a networking, education and support system for women in our industry. Our mission has been and remains to this day to provide a center of education, camaraderie, support and networking opportunities for women in our industry. Our membership encompasses women involved in sales, purchasing, customer service as well as technical careers.
